On Friday, by a vote of 218 to 211, radical pro-abortion members of the U.S. House of Representatives, led by Speaker Nancy Pelosi, passed the so-called Women’s Health Protection Act (H.R. 3755).
This bill will prevent the passage of any new pro-life laws and to nullify all current state laws that save unborn children’s lives. It would also undo most previously enacted federal limits on abortion, including federal conscience protection laws and most, if not all, limits on government funding of abortion.
Virginia state laws that would be nullified include the Parental Consent law and Partial-Birth Abortion ban. “This dangerous bill would prevent the passage of new laws such as a pain-capable unborn child protection act, dismemberment abortion ban, or a law that would protect babies who survive an abortion attempt,” said Olivia Gans Turner, president of the Virginia Society for Human Life. “It would also mean we would not be allowed to restore Virginia’s life saving Women’s Right to Know informed consent law! This bill that pretends to be concerned about women’s health care is nothing more than an effort to protect the abortion industry and its promoters. Women and their babies will pay the deadly high price.”
All of Virginia’s Republican Congressmen voted against the bill, all the Democratic House Members voted for it.
Voting our Values
What does it mean to vote our values? Is it similar to voting our conscience? One way to view voting our values (or our conscience) is to listen to that inner voice informing us of right and wrong, or we go with the understanding that we apply what we know and put it into action. If that’s our starting point, let’s start with what we know:
• At 18 days a baby’s brain has begun development.
• At 5 weeks the baby’s heart is beating and his pain receptors have begun developing.
• At 8 weeks the brain, spinal cord and other neural tissue of the central nervous system is well formed.
• At 12 weeks the baby’s arms, hands, fingers, feet and toes are fully formed.
• By 20 weeks (5 months) all anatomical links needed to feel pain are present.
What else do we know? We know that Terry McAuliffe, who is running for governor, has said many times that the life of a baby at any of the stages listed above should be allowed to be taken through abortion. He is the self-proclaimed “brick wall” against attacks on “choice.” McAuliffe is the man who wants to make common sense protection laws be considered extreme. Not only does he want abortion enshrined in our state constitution, he wants to make sure that you (tax payer) pay for the abortions.
Does that sit well with your values and your conscience or is that directly contrary to them? This is a critical time in our state. Let’s make sure we seek what is best for the people of Virginia. Know who is on the November 2021 ballot and what they’re about.
Save Hyde, Save Lives
The Hyde Amendment has been saving babies lives for 45 years, but the pro-abortion radicals in Congress want to remove this policy from all Appropriations bills. This life-saving amendment was introduced in 1976 to ensure that abortion is not covered by the federal government (our tax dollars) through Medicaid. It is a common sense policy that tax payers should not be forced to pay for abortions in any way, including hospitals and other institutions that should be protected from governmental discrimination.
Our own representatives in Virginia need to be reminded that the Hyde Amendment should be part of the Appropriations bills. In fact, Senator Tim Kaine has said that he supports the Hyde Amendment, so we should encourage him to put his money where his mouth is.
