Federal judge refuses to move up hearing on Texas’s Heartbeat Law

On Thursday, U.S. District Judge Robert Pitman of the Western District of Texas denied the federal government’s request that an Oct. 1 hearing on its motion for a temporary restraining order against the Texas Heartbeat law should be moved up to Sept. 21.

Judge Pittman’s decision “keeps the law in effect and allow Texas to make its case opposing the request from Biden’s Justice Department by Sept. 29,” the Houston Chronicle reported.

Judge Pitman said the case “presents complex, important questions of law that merit a full opportunity for the parties to present their positions to the Court.”
