#prolife: So much meaning, packed into one little hashtag

By Maria V. Gallagher, Legislative Director, Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation

As I posted on my favorite social media platform, Instagram, one day, I paused a moment to reflect. I was about to add my preferred hashtag–#prolife. It occurred to me that such a hashtag contains a profound level of meaning.

#prolife means to support life in its totality, from the instant of conception to the grave moment of natural death.

#prolife represents a helping hand to pregnant women in difficult circumstances, offering the light of hope in the midst of darkness.

#prolife signals an immense respect for the capabilities and potential of people with Down syndrome and other disabilities.

#prolife brings with it a deep care and concern for the frail elderly, whose lives are endangered by euthanasia and assisted suicide.

#prolife offers healing and hope to women whose precious preborn children have been destroyed by abortion.

#prolife includes students who boldly and energetically defend the cause of life in essay and oratory contests.

#prolife stands for truth in the midst of media blackouts on scientific facts such as the physical development of the unborn child.

#prolife means freedom from the culture of death and its soul-wrecking despair.

#prolife signals justice for the poorest of the poor, the preborn child in the womb.

#prolife provides independence for women who are being pressured into an abortion they do not want.

#prolife communicates the goodness and kindness of those who are willing to help complete strangers in their time of profound need.

#prolife represents the unsurpassed beauty of the unborn child and the mother who cradles her in her womb.

So much meaning, packed into one little hashtag. If you venture onto social media today, consider posting something life-affirming which can claim the pro-life mantle. You never know what hearts will be changed, and what lives might be saved, as a result!
