I will be writing a separate post on an analysis piece written for the New York Times by Thomas Edsall. It’s one of those some good, some bad for both pro-life President Trump and pro-abortion former vice president Biden, but the truth is the positive news for the President is far—far—encouraging. It is, in my opinion, a must read.
However, first, as per usual, I’m offering representative headlines and statements, followed by some additional thoughts.
*“Biden Is Not Out of the Woods”—headline of the aforementioned post written by Thomas Edsall
*“As I observed yesterday, Trump yard signs were ubiquitous all over Bucks County, Pa., this weekend. Last night, an ‘overflowing crowd of thousands greeted the president at Orlando Sanford International Airport.’ Before the president’s illness, several thousand people came out to see him in Duluth in 40-degree temperatures. Whether the president has more supporters than the nearly 63 million who voted for him in 2016 or fewer, a chunk of his current supporters are enthusiastic and highly motivated”—Jim Geraghty
*“Now, those close to the ex-veep’s campaign are still debating about whether to debate at all”—Scott Bixby
*“Beyond all else, what makes Trump the man for these revolutionary times is his willingness to defend the American way of life. Here he has no equal. He is unreservedly, unquestionably pro-America” —Tom Klingenstein
*“Thirty-two percent (32%) of Likely U.S. Voters think the country is heading in the right direction, according to a new Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey for the week ending October 8, 2020. This week’s finding is up one point from a week ago. By comparison, this number ran in the mid- to upper 20s for much of 2016, President Obama’s last full year in office” –Rasmussen Reports
*“President Donald Trump will take part in an NBC News town hall event in Miami on Thursday, the network announced on Wednesday. The town hall, moderated by “TODAY” anchor Savannah Guthrie, will take place on the same evening that Joe Biden is doing his own town hall in Philadelphia on ABC News. Trump and Biden were supposed to hold their second debate on Thursday night but it will instead take place on Oct. 22—NBC News
*“Here’s How You Can Tell Democrats Are Afraid They Can Still Lose”—Joe Cunningham
As many have noted, for a multitude of reasons, President Trump’s recovery has infuriated his opponents. Taking my cues from what Jim Geraghty and Tom Klingenstein wrote, President Trump does something better than anyone I have seen in my 50 years of watching politics. He both generates enormous energy at his rallies and returns that enthusiasm twice over. His last two rallies—in the key states of Florida and Pennsylvania—were something to watch.
We talk ceaselessly it seems about the ”enthusiasm gap,” to the point where (in typical journalistic practice) it is now either being discounted or said to have evaporated. Nothing could be further from the truth.
There is simply no Biden counterpart to the devotion to President Trump exhibited by his supporters. That is why every poll says the same thing: far more supporters of Biden are voting against President Trump rather than for Mr. Biden. Please remember than because it will show up in the turnout!
Illustrating yet again that Daniel in the Lions’ Den had nothing on him, President Trump will take part in a Townhall Thursday moderated by moderated by “TODAY” anchor Savannah Guthrie. Meanwhile Biden will be participating simultaneously in a town hall moderated by ABC News Chief Anchor George Stephanopoulos.
Naturally, the Biden campaign whined. According to the New York Times
The decision to schedule Mr. Trump directly against Mr. Biden generated a swift backlash on Wednesday among top Democrats and media pundits, who said NBC was allowing the president an opportunity to blot out his opponent on the airwaves.
Not exactly a vote of confidence in their candidate, wouldn’t you say? No wonder they are sending up trial balloons to see what the response will be to Biden not taking part in a second one-on-one debate.
But no doubt they are counting (as well they should) on Stephanopoulos, a former Democratic hack, to go easy on Biden, and Guthrie (part of morning program that has attacked Trump for years) to go after the President mercilessly.
I put up the Rasmussen figures on whether people think the country is headed in the right direction to make a point that is consistently lost: his numbers are better for President Trump than they were in President Obama’s last full year in office. This, in spite of a pandemic and ensuing economic slowdown.
