Editor’s note. Since NARAL (unsurprisingly) endorsed pro-abortion former Vice President Joe Biden this week, reposting this story from July 30, 2019 seemed perfect timing.
As they say, so many things—good, bad, and more-or-less indifferent—come in threes. But since I’m running out time, allow me to mention just two examples of falsehoods that run from the blatantly untrue to the malicious misleading from NARAL Pro-Choice America.
I won’t bore you with more background than necessary. Suffice it to say that one writer for National Review Online got a [non-]apology apology from NARAL which had posted a tweet attributing something highly controversial to this writer in his appearance on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” about abortion.
But he had not even talked about abortion, indeed had not come within miles of the issue, as even the most cursory fact checking would have shown. NARAL just made it up.
The writer protested, but it took days for NARAL to “apologize for that incorrect info.” It did so, however, after first recycling the same nastiness. One respondent accurately quipped, “Hmmm. A ‘correction’ that doubles down on the libel.”
Worse even than the 1,400 or so retweets of the original lie—sorry “incorrect info”—is that the original is still up as of this afternoon!
Then there is this April 15 tweet from NARAL President Ilyse Hogue
Alert: every candidate in 2020 will be asked if s/he thinks a woman should be able to terminate a pregnancy up until birth. The only correct answer is to reject the question as intentional disinformation designed to scare people and criminalize abortion care. The end.
So, to say that prominent pro-abortionists believe that abortion ought to be legal “up until birth” is “intentional disinformation” and a scare tactic, correct?
Do these people even read their own tweets? Or their own propaganda? Or acknowledge that politicians such as Virginia Del. Kathy Tran flat out admitted her bill would legalize abortion through “all 40 weeks”?
Further, do they just close their eyes so they can’t see, and put their hands over their ears so they can’t hear, when Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam goes even further? That he would make medical treatment for babies who survive abortions optional—a decision left entirely to the aborted mother and the abortionist?
Or that Democrats in Congress are fiercely fighting to prevent a vote on a bill that would enact an explicit requirement that a baby born alive during an abortion must be afforded “the same degree” of care that would apply “to any other child born alive at the same gestational age,” including transportation to a hospital?
No more, but no less.
These people have no shame—but, alas, that’s not news.
