This is a post that grew out of a fortuitous catch by a fellow NRLC staff member of a name (Mitchell Creinin, as it happened] that had shown up in a story Tuesday in NRL News Today. Creinin is a member of the Physicians for Reproductive Health (PRH) whose quote in the New York Times we re-quoted in our story yesterday.
You might ask, who/what is PRH and what difference does it make?
In reverse order, I’ve not paid the kind of attention I should have to Physicians for Reproductive Health. They don’t get the kind of publicity ACOG or the AMA or other medical organizations steeped in abortion advocacy. But they are influential, more behind the scenes.
I asked Dr. Randall K. O’Bannon, NRL’s Director of Education & Research, for a thumbnail sketch. He wrote back that
“PRH is an advocacy and education group of some of the nation’s preeminent abortionists. They promote abortion, the expansion of abortion methods, and the training and education of new abortionists. But they also attempt to create a positive impression of themselves and their work in the minds of the public, politicians, the media, and medical colleagues.”
What did I learn? For one thing, Dr. O’Bannon was not exaggerating. This is a who’s who of the Abortion Industry.
For another thing, most of the Physician Members were either deceased or elderly. This seems to be kind of a “hall of fame” (“hall of shame,” from our perspective). If you’re a pro-life veteran, like me, many of the names are familiar going back to the 1960s and 1970s.
Others are [in]famous for a different reason. They are the kind of abortionists who snuff out the lives of unborn babies well into the third trimester.
One other thing I learned. They either lack self-awareness on a massive scale or have really, truly, genuinely persuaded themselves that killing babies and delivering babies are indistinguishable “services,” two sides of the same coin.
There is a tribute to William Rashbaum which appears in the history section for the year 2006. Who is he?
In a 2005 obituary, the New York Times wrote, “In a profile of Dr. Rashbaum in 2003, Mother Jones magazine called him ‘one of the pre-eminent and longest-practicing providers of second-trimester abortions in the United States.’ Dr. Rashbaum also taught the procedure to hundreds of physicians around the country.” [My emphasis.]
So the 2006 tribute was timely. Here’s how it read:
In memory of co-founder Dr. William K. Rashbaum, PRH presents the inaugural William K. Rashbaum, MD, Abortion Provider Award to Dr. Shalom Press at an event celebrating the National Day of Appreciation for Abortion Providers.
In the accompanying photo, Rashbaum was holding what appeared to be newborn triplets in his arms.
