Your heart goes out to pregnant women facing challenging circumstances. You want them to know the joy that comes from making life-affirming decisions for themselves and their families. But your to-do list is longer than your arm, and you don’t know when you would find the time for a long-term volunteer commitment.
The answer for you may lie in micro volunteering. This helpful trend involves giving of your time in short spurts—perhaps a half hour or less. A non-profit benefits from your gift of self, while you have the satisfaction of knowing you’ve made a difference in someone’s life.
The pro-life movement is filled with micro volunteering opportunities. You can place a call or email your elected officials when important pro-life legislation comes up for a vote. You can post important pro-life articles, memes, or ultrasound images on social media. You can spend some time stuffing envelopes for your National Right to Life state affiliate.
The hardest part may just be getting started. If you are new to the pro-life movement, please know that it is a welcoming environment. Long-time pro-lifers are eager and excited when new volunteers come along, even if their availability is limited to micro opportunities.
Please also know that your talents and skills are sorely needed. It takes a great deal of effort to reversal the societal plunge into the culture of death. But every single pro-life action makes a positive difference and contributes to the rebuilding of a culture of life.
Micro volunteering may also be the gateway for a longer-term pro-life volunteering opportunity. Many of us started out with small pro-life actions before making a commitment to more extensive pro-life volunteering.
So consider micro volunteering for the pro-life movement today! Your micro work just might have macro implications—and might in the process save a life!
