“New life never keeps us from our dreams”—a pro-life, pro-child response to pro-abortion actress Michelle Williams

By Dave Andrusko

We’ve been pleased to repost several stories about actress Michelle Williams who, in her Golden Globe acceptance speech, said “thank God or whoever you pray to” for what the audience and the public took to mean having had “the right” to have an abortion. As the pro-abortion site Rewire.news put it, “While Williams did not say whether she’s had an abortion—or even say the word—some felt she alluded to it.”

Actually, probably everybody did. Certainly comedian Tiffany Haddish who shouted “Preach” and “I’m all about that women’s choice,” after Williams (who is pregnant) spoke, according to the story written by Aimee Arrambide, Jordyn Close, and Sarah Lopez. ”Haddish has been vocal about her abortion experience, including in her memoir, The Last Black Unicorn.”

But Williams’ remarks sparked a great deal of extremely thoughtful pro-life response. (See here, here, and here, to take just three examples.)

Had it not been for the Daily Wire, however, I would have missed one of the most beautiful.

It was an Instagram posted a week ago today by former “America’s Next Top Model” contestant Leah Darrow. While in the “early stages of labor,” she delivered her “acceptance speech” in which she challenged “one of the cruelest lies”–that women “aren’t brave or strong enough to do what God invites us into when we bring life into the world.”

Well, this for sure wasn’t planned but I felt called to share so here’s the truth… New life never keeps us from our dreams. One of the cruelest lies that the Devil tells women is that we aren’t brave or strong enough to do what God invites us into when we bring life into the world. New life is always a gift. And I’m humbled that I get to receive this new life AND live out the *abundant* life the Lord created me for. Please share this message with the ladies in your life because women deserve a better narrative than what the culture gives us. We deserve to believe that life really *can* be this good, and that receiving new life is always, always, always pure gift. I’m lifting you up through this labor and please pray for me!! Can’t wait to have this baby!! 👶💖 #prolife #CatholicWomanhood #mama #babyscoming #michellewilliams #goldenglobes2020 #goldenglobes2019 #acceptancespeech

“I’m here getting ready to deliver my fifth baby. And I want to let all you women know, all you young ladies who haven’t had babies or are maybe listening to what the culture says about birth, and women, and babies, and choice.

“Babies don’t keep us from our dreams. I’m getting ready to deliver a baby that will not keep me from my professional growth but will make me better because of it. And I’m so honored and excited, and I can’t wait to have this baby.”
