America can once again be that shining city upon a hill

By Carol Tobias

Editor’s note. These remarks from NRLC President Carol Tobias concluded the Saturday night closing Banquet for NRLC 2019.

These two days have gone by quickly. I hope you learned something new and that you are returning home with your energy refreshed and ideas abounding so that you can impact your communities for Life.

A reporter today asked me what my vision is. I said my vision is that America would be a light to the world, a shining city on a hill. I want the rest of the world to look at us and see a country that respects and protects human life; a country where human life is valued and accorded dignity.

We’ve been a beacon of light for the world for over two hundred years, but we’ve veered from that path.

We are a country that allows unborn children to be killed for any reason, or no reason, for all nine months of pregnancy.

We are a country that has to fight to protect babies who survive abortion.

We are a country that allows Alzheimer’s patients to be starved to death because they no longer “contribute to society,” and we allow assisted suicide because we think some people are a “burden” and we’re better off without them.

The reporter just kind of nodded and didn’t say anything. She probably thought I was a bit daffy but that’s okay.

I’m an optimist. I think this country can and will again be that shining city upon a hill, showing the world what it means to respect every human life. And I’m counting on your to help make that vision a reality.

I believe each and every one of you were here this weekend, at this time and in this place, for a reason. We are told to be prepared in season and out of season. I hope and pray this convention has helped you to be prepared for what lies ahead in this battle for Life.

Our 50th annual convention next year is the last weekend of June just outside Washington, DC. I hope to see you all there.

Until then, may God give you safe travels home and may He bless all your efforts on behalf of His children.
