Big victory in R.I., but pro-aborts not giving in

From Rhode Island Right to Life

Last night, the Senate Judiciary Committee defeated the Senate version of the radical abortion-expansion bill by a vote of 4 Yeas to 5 Nays, while holding the House version of the bill for further study.

A troubling statement, purportedly from the office of the Senate President, was subsequently posted on Twitter by Providence Journal Political Writer Katherine Gregg, suggesting “there is opportunity for further action.” Abortion proponents say they are not done fighting, too.

We thank the many hundreds of pro-life Rhode Islanders who rallied against these extreme bills. Your pro-life voice has disrupted what was supposed to have already been a done deal. But we must ask you to remain vigilant until we can clarify the situation. Stay tuned…

[The statement from Senate President Dominick Ruggerio concluded, “It is clear that there is not sufficient support to pass the bill as it stands out of committee. By holding the House version of the bill for further study today, there is opportunity for further action.”]

[The statement from the R.I. Coalition for Reproductive Freedom included : “The Judiciary Committee did hold the House companion bill… for further study so we do still have a chance of passing the bill this year.”
