Friday afternoon, we posted about another magnificent March for Life which took place, as it always does, in our nation’s capitol. I will not rehash what I wrote then except to say in the years since my first March for Life (1982), I have never seen a crowd as large as this one assembled on the National Mall.
In that video, the President congratulated these pro-life champions and recalled what his administration has already accomplished for our cause. He also told the assembled crowd what he told pro-abortion Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi in a letter: “I will veto any legislation that weakens current pro-life Federal policies and laws, or that encourage the destruction of innocent human life at any stage.”
The full text of the President’s video remarks, courtesy of the White House, follows below. After that, I’ll add two quick observations based on Ben’s speech:
Today, I am very proud to welcome tens of thousands of families, students, and people of all faiths and backgrounds to our nation’s capital for the 46th annual March For Life.
This is a movement founded on love and grounded in the nobility and dignity of every human life.
When we look into the eyes of a newborn child we see the beauty in the human soul and the Majesty of God’s creation. We know that every life has meaning and that every life is worth protecting. As President, I will always defend the first right of our Declaration of Independence, the right to life.
During my first week in office, I reinstated the Mexico City policy. We have taken bold action to protect the religious freedoms of doctors, nurses, and charities, like the Little Sisters of the Poor. We issued a new proposal to prohibit Title X taxpayer funding from going to any clinic that performs abortions. We are supporting the loving choice of adoption and foster care, including through the support of faith-based adoption services.
And I am supporting the US Senate’s effort to make permanent the Hyde amendment, which prohibits taxpayer funding for abortion in spending bills.
Today, I have signed a letter to Congress to make clear that if they send any legislation to my desk that weakens the protection of human life, I will issue a veto. And, we have the support to uphold those vetoes. Every child is a sacred gift from God.
As this year’s March For Life theme says: “Each person is unique, from day one”
That’s a very important phrase, ‘unique from day one.’ And so true.
I want to thank Americans who traveled all across the country to march for life. And, I especially want to thank so many young people who give us hope for the future.
Together we will work to save lives of unborn children so that they have a chance to live and to love, to thrive and to dream, and to bless our nation and reach their full and glorious potential.
Thank you and God bless you and your family and God bless America.
*The President’s remarks were, to put it mildly, well received. As we have written countless time during the electoral runup to the 2016 Presidential election and since, the Establishment Media will do anything and everything to drive a wedge between our Movement and the Trump administration. Never fall prey to their cynicism. The March for Life attendees certainly didn’t.
*The theme of this year’s March was “Unique from Day One: Pro-Life is Pro-Science.” What I liked especially about Ben Shapiro’s stirring remarks was how he not only reaffirmed and amplified that truth, he closed with an essential complementary truth: God will remember those who stand up for His most precious creations.
“God, the God who built and preserves nations, who brings life and maintains it, who stands with those who suffer most at the hands of evil, He will remember us, too. He will remember America and He will bless her. God will bless us because we are the guardians of His most precious creations.
“We stand between America and the darkness, and we will march until that darkness is banished forever and all of our children can stand together in the sunlight.”
