National Right to Life endorses Matt Rosendale against Jon Tester for U.S. Senate in Montana

Published on

WASHINGTON –National Right to Life has endorsed pro-life state Auditor Matt Rosendale in Montana’s U.S. Senate election following his primary win Tuesday night. Rosendale will challenge pro-abortion Sen. Jon Tester in November.

“National Right to Life is pleased to endorse Matt Rosendale, whose position on life reflects the true values of Montana’s voters,” said Carol Tobias, National Right to Life president. “There is a stark contrast between Matt Rosendale, who supports legal protection for unborn children, and Jon Tester, who supports abortion for any reason until birth.”

Matt Rosendale (R)supports the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act – legislation to protect unborn children by prohibiting abortion at 20 weeks, a point by which the unborn child is capable of experiencing great pain when being killed by dismemberment or other late abortion methods.

Rosendale is challenging Sen. Tester (D), who is supported by the extreme pro-abortion group NARAL Pro-Choice America. Jon Tester has voted against the pro-life position on abortion every chance he had.

Tester voted against the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act. He supports using tax dollars to pay for abortion. Tester supports giving hundreds of millions of dollars of government funds to the nation’s largest abortion provider. Tester even cosponsored S. 510, legislation that would invalidate nearly all state and federal limits on abortion.

Matt Rosendale’s pro-life position contrasts greatly with Tester’s. Matt Rosendale opposes abortion on demand, and he opposes using tax dollars to pay for abortion.

The National Right to Life Committee (NRLC) has announced its endorsement of Matt Rosendale for the U.S. Senate seat from Montana, positioning him against the incumbent, Senator Jon Tester. This endorsement is a significant development in the 2018 midterm elections, highlighting the critical role of abortion rights in American politics and the ongoing efforts of pro-life advocates to influence legislative outcomes.

The National Right to Life Committee’s Endorsement

The NRLC, a leading pro-life organization dedicated to promoting and protecting the right to life of unborn children, has endorsed Matt Rosendale based on his strong pro-life stance and legislative record. The organization believes that Rosendale’s election would further their mission of advancing pro-life policies at the federal level.

Matt Rosendale’s Pro-Life Credentials

Matt Rosendale, Montana’s State Auditor at the time of the endorsement, has a consistent pro-life record that aligns with the NRLC’s goals. Key aspects of his pro-life stance include:

  1. Legislative Actions: Rosendale has supported various pieces of legislation aimed at restricting abortion access and promoting alternatives to abortion. His voting record in state politics reflects a strong commitment to pro-life principles.
  2. Public Advocacy: Rosendale has been outspoken about his pro-life views, participating in pro-life rallies and events, and expressing his commitment to protecting the unborn.
  3. Policy Proposals: He has proposed policies that seek to limit abortion and promote the welfare of pregnant women and unborn children, including support for adoption services and parental support programs.

Senator Jon Tester’s Position on Abortion

Senator Jon Tester, a Democrat, has a more nuanced position on abortion, often aligning with pro-choice principles. His record includes:

  1. Pro-Choice Votes: Tester has consistently voted to protect a woman’s right to choose, supporting federal funding for Planned Parenthood and opposing restrictive abortion laws.
  2. Healthcare Access: He advocates for comprehensive reproductive healthcare, emphasizing the importance of access to contraception and family planning services as part of women’s health.
  3. Public Statements: Tester has emphasized the importance of maintaining the protections established by Roe v. Wade and has spoken out against efforts to roll back reproductive rights.

The Political Context

Montana, a traditionally conservative state, presents a significant battleground for the 2018 midterm elections. The outcome of this Senate race could impact the balance of power in Congress and influence future legislation on reproductive rights. The NRLC’s endorsement of Rosendale aims to capitalize on the state’s conservative leanings to unseat the pro-choice incumbent.

Impact of the Endorsement

The NRLC’s endorsement of Rosendale is expected to mobilize pro-life voters in Montana, providing a boost to his campaign through increased support from pro-life organizations and their networks. This backing includes financial contributions, volunteer efforts, and strategic campaigning aimed at highlighting Tester’s pro-choice record and contrasting it with Rosendale’s pro-life stance.

Reactions to the Endorsement

Supporters of Matt Rosendale

Pro-life advocates and Rosendale’s supporters have welcomed the NRLC’s endorsement, viewing it as a validation of his commitment to protecting the unborn. They believe that Rosendale’s election to the Senate would strengthen pro-life representation and advance legislation aimed at restricting abortion access.

Critics and Supporters of Jon Tester

Supporters of Jon Tester and pro-choice advocates have criticized the endorsement, arguing that Rosendale’s election could jeopardize women’s reproductive rights. They highlight Tester’s consistent support for reproductive healthcare and emphasize the importance of maintaining a pro-choice voice in the Senate to protect these rights.

Broader Implications

The NRLC’s endorsement of Rosendale against Tester underscores the broader national debate over abortion rights. This race is a microcosm of the ideological battle between pro-life and pro-choice advocates, reflecting the high stakes involved in Senate elections. The outcome could influence federal abortion policies and the direction of reproductive rights in the United States.

Conclusion

The National Right to Life Committee’s endorsement of Matt Rosendale for the U.S. Senate seat from Montana, coupled with its opposition to incumbent Senator Jon Tester, highlights the significant role of abortion issues in the 2018 midterm elections. As both candidates prepare for the election, their contrasting positions on abortion will remain a central theme, influencing voter decisions and potentially shaping the legislative landscape on reproductive rights in the United States.
