Sorry it took me until the end of the week to say “thank you” to all those readers who are perusing the May digital edition of National Right to Life News, “the pro-life newspaper of record.”
I’ve learned that there remain an untold number of readers who receive our Monday through Saturday editions of National Right to Life News Today who do not know that we have a monthly edition which includes plenty of new stories and other NRL News Today posts that readers especially liked. So the more our readers share favorite NRL News stories, the more people will learn about this terrific asset.
In the May issue of NRL News, we begin with a front cover that says simply but most importantly, “Happy Mother’s Day.” Thanks, Mom!
On page one we talk about the importance of registering for the annual NRLC convention, this year being held in Kansas City, Kansas. That three-day educational extravaganza begins June 28.

Also on page one, Ingrid Duran, our State Legislative Director, provides a very encouraging and succinct overview of what pro-lifers accomplished in the states this legislative session. Our state affiliates have, as always, been very busy.
NRLC President Carol Tobias offers a lovely tribute to Alfie Evans, that brave little Liverpool warrior. The May issue has several other article about Alfie’s parents who moved heaven and earth in an unsuccessful effort to move their gravely ill toddler to a hospital in Italy which had not given up on him. Alfie’s funeral is Monday.
There is story after story about the euthanasia juggernaut and what we are doing to fight it. The best news by far came last week when the AMA refused to give in the siren call of the anti-life activists.
As pro-life bioethicist Wesley J. Smith wrote, “The AMA was asked by legalization activists to revisit its decades-long opposition to legalizing assisted suicide, specifically, to distinguish between suicide and the euthanasia movement’s favorite euphemism, ‘aid in dying.’ Big mistake. The Ethics Committee reiterated its opposition to legalization in full…”
We wrote about a notorious abortionist, Robert Rho, who copped a plea in the death of Jamie Lee Morales who died after Rho aborted her 25-weekold unborn baby for which Rho charged Morales $6,000. The man who said he had performed 40,000 abortions pled guilty to criminally negligent homicide.
I’ll be returning next week to talk about the issue again. Suffice it to say here, the May edition includes powerfully encouraging stories about people with Down syndrome, the courage of families faced with discouraging news from pediatricians about their unborn babies, and the initial victories in Minnesota in an effort to pass an ultrasound bill.
