Human Life of Washington opposes Gov. Inslee’s signing abortion legislation

Human Life of Washington opposes Gov. Jay Inslee’s signing of Substitute Senate Bill 6219 mandated abortion legislation. SSB 6219 forces all employers, employees, and taxpayers to pay for abortions, whether through abortifacient drugs or surgical abortions.

“It is morally reprehensible,” said Esther Ripplinger, Executive Director for Human Life of Washington. “This legislation was politically calculated at the hands of abortion lobby groups to ensure Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion provider, has funding in a time when they are at risk of losing hundreds of millions of dollars from the federal government.”

One of the many aspects of this bill is that it is unconstitutional, according to Article 1, Section 11 of Washington state constitution. “At present, we cannot count on our top state elected officials to uphold the most basic laws in our state,” said Ripplinger.

“Citizens in Washington state should always be able to act on their conscience right to choose what their business and their paycheck pays for, and our federal and state constitution guarantees us that right,” added Ripplinger.
