South Carolina GOP Urges Passage

Last year, the Unborn Child Protection from Dismemberment Abortion (H3548) passed the South Carolina House by an overwhelming, bi-partisan vote of 89-17. On February 15 it passed the Senate Medical Affairs Subcommittee by a 3-2 vote along party lines. The bill would outlaw the savage procedure of killing an unborn child by ripping and tearing the baby apart limb by limb.
The South Carolina Republic Party State Committee has issued a unanimous resolution calling on the S.C. Senate to pass the ban on dismemberment abortions.
“Getting this out of the State Senate without amendments is critical in order to take advantage of the momentum gained by the overwhelming support in the State House, rather than letting opponents get it bogged down in a conference committee and stop it from becoming law” said South Carolina GOP State Chairman Drew McKissick. The resolution calls upon the State Senate to pass the bill without amendment so that it can go immediately to Governor Henry McMaster for his signature.
A ban on dismemberment abortions has passed in eight states: Kansas (2015); Oklahoma (2015); West Virginia (2016); Mississippi (2016); Alabama (2016); Louisiana (2016); Arkansas (2017); and Texas (2017).
On Thursday, March 1, the full South Carolina Senate Medical Affairs Committee will take up the dismemberment ban. If it passes, the bill will advance to the Senate Calendar. Testimony is not taken at the full committee meeting. The meeting begins at 9 a.m. in room 308 of the Gressette Senate Office Building.
