SCCL to celebrate Proudly Pro-Life Weekend January 5-6

By Holly Gatling, Executive Director

South Carolina Citizens for Life will celebrate its Proudly Pro-Life Weekend January 5-6 with a dinner Friday night followed Saturday by the 45th Annual Stand Up for Life March and Rally at the State Capitol in Columbia, S.C.

This year’s theme is “The Past, the Present, and the Future.”

Long-term pro-life leader, Robert Jackson, M.D., of Spartanburg, S.C., will be honored for his foundational work to support pregnancy care centers and early legislation.

Future pro-life leaders Emily Barnhill and Austin Cherry, will be recognized for their involvement as university students strongly involved pro-life activities. Both Emily and Austin have been closely connected with National Right to Life.

Emily is a 2017 graduate of the National Right to Life Academy and President of North Greenville University Students for Life. Austin has worked as an intern with National Right to Life and at the United Nations with Jeanne Head as a non-governmental representative (NGO) for National Right to Life. He has been an NGO since 2015 and will return to the UN in march.

The present is represented by our featured speaker Ryan Bomberger, Emmy® Award-winning creative professional, citizen journalist, and co-founder of the Radiance Foundation. His theme, “Conceived in rape, adopted in love” represents the present message of the pro-life movement — that is a human being is not defined by the circumstances of his or her conception.

On Saturday, the pro-life community will participate in the 45th consecutive “Stand Up for Life March and Rally” that began in 1974, the year South Carolina Citizens for Life was established. Marchers line up at the University of South Carolina and process seven blocks to the State House where Ryan Bomberger will again be the featured speaker.

The Stand Up for Life March and Rally is the single largest pro-life event every year in South Carolina. It usually coincides with the opening session of the South Carolina General Assembly where this year the state Senate will take up the bill to ban dismemberment abortions of living children.
