“Honey… we’re pregnant”

“You’re going to be a mom.”

“You’re doing to be a dad.”

By Dave Andrusko

David, my son, his wife Jean, and their two kids are on an abbreviated three day holiday trip. They’ve tweeted numerous pictures of their time in a state park which includes multiple examples of Ethan’s fascination with all creatures green and toad-like.

Ethan is now three and Emma is (yikes!) six. I cannot believe they are growing so fast. Pardon the cliché but it seems like only yesterday we learned that Jean was pregnant with their first child.

I looked at their last picture just before I walked in the door at work. It reminded me of one of my all-time favorite Huggies commercials– “Honey… we’re pregnant”

The commercial begins with the woman looking expectantly at the pregnancy test kit. Wham, her eyes light up and she shouts out the window to her husband who is in the back yard, “Honey… we’re pregnant.”

The ad is beautifully done, beginning with the shock/awe/delight that runs across the woman’s face when she discovers she is going to have a baby.

The excited back-an- forth between the couple is a real delight to watch and a wonderful pro-life educational tutorial.

“Honey, We’re pregnant.”

“We’re pregnant?”

“You’re going to be a mom.”

“You’re doing to be a dad.”

“There’s a little baby in there. There’s a HUMAN BEING growing inside your stomach”

“Yah.”

(Then the cute payoff from the husband which serves as the link to Huggies’ ‘Mommy Answers’)

“Now what?”

It’s been a long time since my wife and I were expecting parents, so I don’t pay a lot of attention to diaper ads. But I wonder if many are this straightforwardly truthful about what is going on: “There’s a little baby in there. There’s a HUMAN BEING growing inside your stomach.”

Take 60 seconds and watch the commercial. The expressions on their faces will make your day.
