A Memorable First Day at NRL 2017

We are reporting from the site of 2017 National Right to Life Convention and we will periodically post throughout all three days of the pro-life educational event of the year.

Attendees—and there are a LOT of them here at the Hyatt in Milwaukee, Wisconsin—will be treated later tonight to a General Session featuring Ann McElhinney. Ann is the producer of Gosnell the movie and co-author of the New York Times Best Seller Gosnell: The Untold Story of America’s Most Prolific Serial Killer. We will talk about her presentation on Friday.

But what an incredible start to NRL 2017 today. Ben Shapiro was our opening General Session speaker. Ben’s razor-sharp wit and exquisite talent for debunking anti-life propaganda was on full display. He methodically—but with great humor—went through the Ten Most Common Pro-abortion Arguments. (Mr. Shapiro was spot on: so many of them are head-scratchers, arguments vainly in search of intellectual and moral coherence.)

Not only was Ben’s presentation dazzling, he stayed around and graciously posed for photos with convention goers.

Mr. Shapiro was preceded by Wisconsin Lt. Governor Rebecca Kleefisch and Attorney General Brad Schimel. Each was warmly welcomed by the audience and both delivered powerfully personal pro-life messages. It would be hard to image NRL 2017 getting off to a better start.

In the first afternoon General Session, investigative reporter/citizen journalist David Daleiden’s powerful remarks reminded a packed auditorium why Planned Parenthood so fears him and why pro-abortion politicians are ever-seeking to silence the Center for Medical Progress.

Daleiden and CMP became nationally known in 2015 when CMP undercover investigators posed as buyers of “fetal tissue” (an umbrella term that includes intact hearts and lungs and pancreas and livers and brains), and asked the kinds of questions someone who is the middleman would ask of the abortion industry.

The product of this 30-month-long “Human Capital” investigation was a lengthy series of videos that documented Planned Parenthood’s unsavory involvement in the procurement and sale of body parts from aborted babies. (NRL News Today wrote about these videos at great length.)

The inhumanity and callousness and gallows humor of numerous Planned Parenthood officials shocked the nation’s conscience. And even though doubtless most of his audience had seen parts of the undercover videos, we gasped as we listened to and watched PPFA big shot Dr. Deborah Nucatola munch down her salad and say things such

“you try to intentionally go above and below the thorax, so that, you know, we’ve been very good at getting heart, lung, liver, because we know that, so I’m not gonna crush that part, I’m gonna basically crush below, I’m gonna crush above, and I’m gonna see if I can get it all intact”

and

“with the calvarium [the skull], in general, some people will actually try to change the presentation so that it’s not vertex [head first], because when it’s vertex presentation you never have enough dilation at the beginning of the case, unless you have real, huge amounts of dilation to deliver an intact calvarium.”

In other words, to get more whole [intact] organs, abortionists will “change the presentation” (alter the abortion technique).

Mr. Daleiden concluded his stirring remarks by asserting that Planned Parenthood—“the engine behind industrial-scale, state-subsidized child-killing in our country”—is “teetering on the brink.”
