Honoring the Beauty of Babies

“People” magazine is noted for placing photos of individuals the editors describe as the world’s most beautiful people on their cover pages.

Certainly, the publication lived up to its mission in its most recent edition, when baby after baby, accompanied by their beaming mothers, graced the May 8th cover.

The babies-complete with adorable pouts and precious headbands-can easily steal your heart.

The cover celebrates beauty and joy, which are the hallmarks of our nation’s youngest citizens.

But because of a dangerous 1973 U.S. Supreme Court ruling, these citizens are also the nation’s most vulnerable Americans. The court ruling, known as Roe v. Wade, wiped out protections for preborn children, giving rise to abortion on demand for any reason during all nine months of pregnancy. The decision has also wiped out a population of more than 59 million unborn babies, and left countless numbers of women and men to grieve children lost to abortion.

Abortion destroys beauty and kills joy by taking the life of an infinitely valuable human being who cannot be replicated. It decimates dreams and devastates families.

The mothers featured on the cover appeared as cast members of the ABC show “The Bachelorette.” The telling headline reads, “Life After Bachelorette” and a sub-headline points out “They got their happy ever after!”

Babies should be celebrated, honored, and cherished. While so much of pop culture promotes abortion culture, it is beautiful to see glimpses of truth peeking out from the local newsstand.
