One of the under-told stories of last Tuesday’s Election Day is the enormous gains pro-lifers made at the state level. We have already reported on some states with more to come.
Today, in this post, we talk about Iowa.
Nationally, of course, the big news was Donald Trump’s 10 point victory in Iowa. The Hawkeye State had twice voted for Democrat Barack Obama. This time Trump carried the state’s six electoral votes.
We turn to the analysis compiled by Jenifer Bowen, spokeswoman for Iowa Right to Life, for more about congressional races and what took place in the state legislature.
There were three pro-life/pro-abortion contests for the U.S. House of Representatives. All three pro-lifers won.
Pro-life Sen. Chuck Grassley, chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee , won his seventh term over his pro-abortion Democratic rival.
Referring to statehouse races, Bowen wrote, “We won 17 of 19 Senate races! And 42 of 62 House races!”
Often, the defeat of a handful of strategically placed incumbents is key to unblocking the barriers to passage of pro-life legislation. Bowen explained
Last week’s elections also saw Senator Michael Gronstal of Council Bluffs OUSTED.
Now Former Senator Gronstal, who has long held a chokehold on the Iowa Senate, refusing to allow even a simple debate on bills, like our 2011 late-term abortion ban, has been sent home for good.
Along with Former Senator Gronstal, late-term abortion advocates, Senators Steve Sodders, Tom Courtney, Mary Jo Wilhem, Brian Schoenjahn, among others, were all removed.
What was (in Bowen’s words) the very clear message voters sent on Election Day?
All human lives, born and unborn, are precious and worth fighting for, especially at the ballot box.
