“Because of StandUpGirl, I finally came to the decision that I will not have an abortion. I’m going to try to be the best I can for my little man.” -Brandi
On January 21st of this year a couple dozen women, and their children, braved the forecast of a historic blizzard and came to Washington D.C. to share with Congress the important work of Pregnancy Help Centers. They came as a part of Heartbeat International’s “Babies go to Congress” program.
These brave women shared their stories and introduced their precious children, which likely would not be here if it weren’t for the hard work of pregnancy help center volunteers, to their congressional representatives. It was powerful to witness.
For the first time in our 15 year history, the StandUpGirl.com Foundation, an Oregon based innovative website and life-affirming resource for young women facing unplanned pregnancies, had the honor of participating and representing the amazing work happening in Oregon on behalf of women and their unborn children. We brought with us our friend, Teka Brown, and her sweet daughter Tailor.
Finding herself pregnant at 17, Teka found the courage and support to choose life for Tailor through her local pregnancy center in Coos Bay, Oregon and through StandUpGirl.com. Seven years later, Teka is now a volunteer for StandUpGirl.com, encouraging and mentoring other young women who find themselves in similar situations.
It is easy to get discouraged, especially in Oregon, but witnessing these amazing stories and meeting the compassionate and giving men and women who make up the pregnancy help community is inspiring and fills me with hope. Planned Parenthood has nothing on these heros!
This is just one of the exciting and new ways we are celebrating 15 years of changing hearts and saving lives. We have also just begun advertising on public transit near a local abortion clinic. Now young women on their way to this clinic to make a life-altering decision will have a chance to experience the hope and courage offered by StandUpGirl.com.
Each e-mail we receive from a young women telling us she chose life for her baby because of the support she received through StandUpGirl.com energizes us to continue our work helping young women facing an unplanned pregnancy find the support she needs to make life-affirming choices.
Finally, you too can help celebrate our 15th Anniversary! Join our campaign to reach 1 million young women in crisis in one month by visiting and sharing https://www.gofundme.com/standupgirl!
