Earth to NARAL: where have you been the last 25 years?!
Doritos wisely chose the “ultrasound” ad to play Sunday during the Super Bowl. The 30-second ad was one of three finalists in the tenth (and final) year of Doritos’s “Crash the Super Bowl” campaign in which fans submit home-made commercials. It was so good that it finished third in the USA Today survey of all the commercials!
As we have written twice before the ad was supposed to be–and was–a humorous take on a dad oblivious to his unborn child moving about on the ultrasound monitor until the baby tries to snatch the chip that the dad is extending in his/her direction.
When the mother unhappily tosses a chip away, well, ship ahoy; the little one (imaginatively) bolts out in a search and recovery mission which requires delivery.
In that friendly, smiling, cheerful voice that NARAL has patented, NARAL wrote about the “anti-choice tact of humanizing fetuses.” Thoroughly annoyed, NARAL grumpily added for good measure, “& sexist tropes of dads as clueless & moms as uptight.”
Well….psst. Ultrasounds have been “humanizing” the unborn for years and years and years. I know NARAL Pro-Choice America operates in its own little world, but is that truism, known to virtually everyone, news to NARAL?
Of course not. They are just angry that pictures/ultrasounds of unborn babies are almost omnipresent. We get to know the little ones 6, 7months before they officially debut.
A related thought about crabbiness/being out of touch.
Pro-abortion Hillary Clinton and her traveling band of pro-abortion feminists can’t get out of their own way.
As you no doubt heard, Gloria Steinem–who became famous in the 1970s–and former Secretary of State Madeline Albright–best known for her work in the 1990s–lambasted younger feminists for not falling into line: that is, for having the independent spirit to rally around Democratic Socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders.
Neither Clinton nor Sanders is pro-life; they are the very antithesis. But for Albright to pronounce “there’s a special place in hell for women who don’t help each other” is to treat women with all the scorn and dismissiveness they attribute to any man who disagrees with them.
On top of that, Steinem is busy apologizing for having “misspoke.” How so? For stating on Bill Maher’s show Friday night that younger women were supporting Sanders because “when you’re young, you’re thinking, ‘Where are the boys?’ The boys are with Bernie.” In other words, younger women were merely looking for dates, not supporting Sanders because they agreed with him.
It’s all of a piece. A combination of intolerance and cluelessness. One final example.
If you are Hillary Clinton and aware that Sanders is just crushing you among younger Democratic women, would you really hold a rally with a group of …mature female U.S. senators which you call the “sisterhood of the traveling pantsuits”?
That is so painfully lame, so indicative of the gap between former Secretary of State Clinton and younger people in general that you can only wonder what Clinton’s (or her supporters’) next embarrassing faux pas will be.
