In absolute numbers there were 501 fewer abortion deaths–12,900 abortions versus the 13,401 reported abortions performed in 2013.
The news buttresses the overall decline in the number of babies lost to abortion, as reported in NRL News Today. States experiencing a drop in abortions include Wisconsin; Texas; Ohio; Pennsylvania; Vermont; and North Dakota.
From the Arizona Department of Health Services’ report we learn
*99% were elective abortions–there were virtually no abortions performed to protect the life or health of the woman.
*Likewise 99% of the 2014 abortions were performed on women residing in Arizona.
*The abortion rate decreased for all adolescent groups 15-19 years old–5.5% for the 18-19 year old group.
*72% of the abortions were surgical (as opposed to chemical).
*Three in eight (36%) women reported having one or more previous abortions.
*On page 30 we learn that in 2014 there was an increase in complications of 34%–to 137. Almost all (92.7%) were in Maricopa County, according to the report.
*45 of the 61 petitions filed by minors to have abortions without their parents’ consent were granted.
