Congressional Democrats and abortion: “Make it so that we don’t know what it is”

When the House Judiciary Committee held a hearing this week to examine ““Planned Parenthood Exposed: Examining the Horrific Abortion Practices at the Nation’s Largest Abortion Provider,” pro-abortion committee Democrats were not about to drop into a defensive crouch.

Using the rationale that the best defense is a good offense, they bashed Republicans; bashed the Center for Medical Progress for having the audacity to release undercover video showing how Planned Parenthood officialdom really thinks and acts; and reaffirmed that PPFA–which aborts over 330,000 unborn babies each year–holds a special, special place in their cold, cold hearts.

For example, according to TIME magazine’s Tessa Berenson, Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee said, “It’s a beloved institution by most Americans, because it’s one of the most excellent providers of high quality care outside of the abortion area.”

(I guess Rep. Lee’s point was that–if you just pretend PPFA isn’t the nation’s, if not the world’s, largest abortion provider–then PPFA provides high quality care. That minor exception aside…)

We quoted a couple of the Democratic hotheads on the Judiciary Committee in previous posts. But I had missed what House Democratic Leader pro-abortion Nancy Pelosi (D-Ca.) had told reporters on Wednesday.

According to The Hill,  Pelosi was at her dismissive, condescending best. And, as always, Pelosi’s talking point was to portray PPFA as the victim (as opposed to the millions of unborn babies who have been dismembered).

“This is more than Planned Parenthood. It’s about women, it’s about reproductive freedom, it’s about respect for women’s judgment about the sizing and timing of their families,” Pelosi intoned, according to The Hill’s Mike Lillis.

Speaking to a group of reporters in her office in the Capitol, Pelosi added, “How dare they be so disrespectful to women. How dare they be so disregarding of women’s health issues.”

To Pelosi and other pro-abortionists, it is never about abortion and always about something else.

When PPFA officials are caught on camera talking about how gifted they are at “crushing” the heads of unborn babies, the better to secure intact baby body parts, this has nothing to do with brutality on an incalculable scale but “disrespecting women.”

When the CEO from StemExpress, a tissue procurement company that works closely with PPFA, laughs about how an academic lab will freak out if they see an intact skull– “Tell the lab it’s coming!”–this is “disregarding of women’s health issues.”

You get the point. There is a vitally important reason to bypass what actually takes place. Who wants to know (as the latest CMP video reveals) that people like the CEO from StemExpress can talk like this (referring to the academic labs):

It’s almost like they don’t want to know where it comes from. I can see that. Where they’re like, “We need limbs, but no hands and feet need to be attached.” And you’re like? Or they want long bones, and they want you to take it all off, like, make it so that we don’t know what it is.

“Make it so that we don’t know what it is.” The words could have come directly from the mouth of Nancy Pelosi.
