The pro-life blogosphere is afire with indignation about behavior that would make Freddy Krueger blanche: the grotesquely casual comments of a high-high ranking Planned Planned official as she matter-of-factly discussed how to expedite the sale and distribution of intact baby body parts to two undercover investigators posing as willing middlemen.
But even some of the newspapers who customarily act as a kind of Praetorian Guard for the Abortion Industrial Complex conceded that the “details” that so readily rolled off the tongue of Dr. Deborah Nucatola, senior director for medical services for the Planned Parenthood Federation of America, were “graphic.”
Of course “graphic” would seem to minimize by several hundred miles Dr. Nucatola oh-so-casual talk of intact brains and livers and heads. And, to be clear, it wasn’t as if the Center for Medical Progress, which conducted the conversation using a hidden camera, had only one of two particularly nauseous comments to choose from. They were everywhere in the discussion.
The following quote, however, maybe the most revealing. First, it illustrates that Dr. Nucatola has been completely desensitized. Indeed, there is a kind of almost ghoulish pride that PPFA’s abortionists are skilled enough to bring out whole hearts and lungs and livers, because they know where and where not to “crush.”
But her comments also illustrate that Planned Parenthood will accommodate their desire for something far more difficult to secure: an intact skull.
[Y]ou’re just kind of cognizant of where you put your graspers, you try to intentionally go above and below the thorax, so that, you know, we’ve been very good at getting heart, lung, liver, because we know that, so I’m not gonna crush that part, I’m gonna basically crush below, I’m gonna crush above, and I’m gonna see if I can get it all intact. And with the calvarium [the skull], in general, some people will actually try to change the presentation so that it’s not vertex [head first], because when it’s vertex presentation you never have enough dilation at the beginning of the case, unless you have real, huge amounts of dilation to deliver an intact calvarium.
We’ve written about this video many times and will many more times in the future. Plus evidently there are more videos on the way that will provide much more to discuss and analyze.
So let me conclude from British author and columnist Tim Stanley, writing for CNN.
What matters about this video is what it appears to reveal about the reality behind America’s sanitized image of abortion; the reality of what an abortion is and how it morally compromises us all. … Sensitivity is indeed at the center of the ethical issue the video raises.
Planned Parenthood is sensitive to us getting the wrong idea about what it does. But we’re sensitive about not having to find out.
We don’t know what we don’t know. And if you are of a mind that you do not ever want to know, the video is profoundly disturbing on two scores.
First, the barbaric destruction of innocent human life discussed over salad and red wine. If you have a weak stomach, it could be emptied as you listen to Dr. Nucatola’s no-big-deal rhetoric.
Second, if you’ve not planted your flag on the side of life, this video challenges you to the core. It asks…”Why haven’t you done something—anything—to save these helpless babies”?
Many of us for very understandable reasons fervently wish to avert our gaze from the horror.
This video says No! You must look and you must act.
