Looking ahead to 2015…Thank You!

touchingheartsreTomorrow is New Year’s Eve. We’ll repost the ten stories that were the best read of the hundreds and hundreds and hundreds written by NRLC staff along with contributions from other fine pro-life authors. I think they will remind you why the number of people receiving NRL News Today Monday through Saturday in their inboxes grows and grows. (If you are not, please take 60 seconds out and register at www.nrlc.org/mailinglist.)

We are near the end of a year whose successes few could have predicted January 1, 2014. At NRL News Today and NRL News we’ve done our level-best to document how your efforts have produced rich dividends for the greatest social justice movement of our time. That was most visibly evidenced by a gain of nine pro-life Republicans in the Senate and the largest number of pro-life GOP members in the House since 1928.

There is a lot going on today so it occurred to me this morning that before it gets lost in the shuffle, I need to say a proper “thank you!” to the readers of National Right to Life News Today and National Right to Life News.

I’m thankful, of course, not just to our readers but to all whose faithful service and financial contributions make the work of National Right to Life possible. We work shoulder to shoulder, accomplishing together what otherwise would be impossible.

With that truism in mind let me just say…

Never, ever forget were it not for you, fainter hearts would have given up when President Obama was re-elected. That was a horrible day on so many levels for unborn babies and the medically dependent elderly. But even in the immediate aftermath of that deeply unfortunate turn of events, when I spoke to pro-life audiences in person, I saw with my own eyes the soaring determination on display in your correspondence: pro-lifers do not know the meaning of the word “quit.”

If not for you, all our efforts to craft and then pass legislation such as the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act (already on the books in 10 states) would have been for naught. Karen Cross, NRLC’s Political Director, always reminds us of a foundational truth: pro-life laws save lives.

If not for you, the number of abortions, ghastly as they still are, would be much worse. Never forget that in 1990, 1.6 million unborn babies were aborted.

Now not only has the number of abortions in the U.S. dropped to lows not seen since the earliest days of legal abortion in America, so, too, have abortion rates and abortion ratios. For 2011 Guttmacher reported 1,058,470 abortions—which is 1,058,470 too many, but a tremendous acknowledgment that your labors are paying off.

If not for you, there would not be an endless stream of laments from pro-abortionists, bemoaning that every time they turn around pro-lifers are finding creative ways to help women in crisis pregnancies choose life. It is no accident that they hate women-helping centers with an almost irrational fervor.

And if not for you, our collective souls would have been coarsened to the point where it made no difference to us that we are taking the lives of the next generation and in so doing breaking the single most important bond in human culture. Your steadfast faithfulness is a constant reminder that without love and empathy and compassion for the powerless, we are lost.

Thank you for all you are doing for the little ones. I anticipate with joy and excitement working together in 2015
