Virginia pro-life Congressmen re-elected, outcome of Senate race still undecided

Pro-life Ed Gillespie

In an unexpectedly tight race between pro-life Ed Gillespie and pro-abortion Senator Mark Warner, the results are still be too close to call. According to unofficial results from the Virginia Department of Elections, Gillespie trailed Warner by 0.73 percent (less than 1%) as of Wednesday afternoon.

It was clear that Gillespie’s pro-life positions stood in contrast to Warner’s extremist views. Many voters responded to Gillespie’s position, helping to close the gap between Gillespie and Warner. Whether there is a recount is yet to be determined.

Voters in Virginia made it clear that they support pro-life candidates. In Virginia’s 10th district, pro-life Del. Barbara Comstock won a solid victory over her pro-abortion challenger. Her win holds onto the seat long held by pro-life Rep. Frank Wolf.

In the 7th District, Dave Brat, who ran as a pro-life candidate, won election to the seat formerly held by pro-life Eric Cantor.

“Virginia Society for Human Life looks forward to working with both of these newly elected representatives to advance pro-life efforts in the new Congress,” said Olivia Gans Turner, Virginia Society for Human Life President.

All of Virginia’s pro-life incumbent congressmen won reelection: Rep. Rob Wittman, 1st district, Rep. Scott Rigell, 2nd District, Rep. Randy Forbes, 4th District, Rep. Robert Hurt, 5th District, Rep. Bob Goodlatte, 6th District, and Rep. Morgan Griffith, 9th District.

“This means that Virginia will return a majority pro-life delegation to Congress.” said Gans Turner. “Virginia has been served by all of these men whose commitment to the cause of life is undisputed.”
