The Pro-Abortion Movement’s War on Women

This rally is titled, “Challenging the Nation to Respect Life.” Let’s start by remembering our history. Next week, Americans will celebrate the 4th of July, the day set aside to recognize the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Say it with me, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are LIFE, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.”

That unalienable right to LIFE is trampled every day by those who would deny life to unborn children. And just as the Continental Congress sent a message to King George, that they want their rights to be respected, we are going to send a message to King Barack– sorry, President Obama– that we want the rights in that Declaration to be recognized and defended. We send that message by electing men and women who understand what our founding fathers said.

We just heard from three wonderful candidates – Senator McConnell, Congressman Barr and Congressman Guthrie. There are wonderful pro-life candidates all across this great land and we need to do everything we can to elect them.

We are in the middle of campaign season– you may know it better as the silly season–because this is when we start hearing the silly slogans and accusations and comments thrown around during a campaign. Let’s talk about one of the silliest– you know what I’m talking about – the “War on Women.”

If you think unborn children should be welcomed in life and protected by law, you are waging a “war on women.” That is what President Obama and his allies want the country to believe.

I’m going to surprise you and say that I partially agree with President Obama– there is a war being waged against women. But it is coming from the abortion industry and its accomplices.

Let’s look at the facts:

Abortion is the least regulated invasive procedure in the country. Almost half of the states do not require that women be fully informed about the abortion procedure, its potential risks, or alternatives that are available – something that is required for other surgical procedures performed in this country.

Abortion advocates fight informed consent requirements because they are afraid that if the mother gets relevant information or sees her baby through ultrasound, she’ll change her mind. They want to rush the pregnant woman into the abortion facility and rush her through the abortion procedure before she can change her mind. That is not “pro-woman.”

Planned Parenthood is the largest provider of abortions in America, killing more than 300,000 unborn children each year, almost 1/3 of all babies killed by abortion. They are not content to just have women walk through their doors. Some Planned Parenthood facilities now offer “webcam” abortions. Rather than meeting the abortionist in person, a pregnant woman sits in a Planned Parenthood office in one city and talks to the abortionist long-distance via computer. The abortionist pushes a button on his computer that opens a drawer in the room where the woman is seated. Inside that drawer is the chemical cocktail that will kill her unborn child.

Chemical abortions are a two drug process: the first kills the developing human being in the uterus; the second expels the dead child from the uterus. This is a dangerous abortion method. Thousands of women have suffered complications, including prolonged pain, infection, severe hemorrhaging, an incomplete abortion, and death. The doctor who presumably knows what’s happening and could help her with those complications may be hundreds of miles away.

Even though the woman’s health, and indeed her life, could be in danger, our opponents fight any attempt to regulate web-cam abortions. Prescribing a chemical abortion to a woman who is 100 miles or more away, with that abortionist not being there to help in case of complications, is not pro-woman.

Most teenage girls are not able to handle a big, life or death, decision like abortion by themselves. But abortion advocates fight any type of legislation that would involve mom or dad in that process. When a 15 year old girl is lying on her bed at night, crying about her abortion, these so-called advocates for women are not there to hold her hand. But if you think Mom or Dad should be involved in that decision, the country is supposed to believe that you are waging a war on women.

Unborn babies at 20 weeks gestation can feel pain. So far, 10 states have banned abortions on babies who can feel pain. If you think that babies who can feel pain should be protected from abortion, you are waging a war on women.

California adopted a law allowing non-physicians to perform first-trimester surgical abortions. For those who think abortion should be “safe,” how does reducing the required standard of medical care help? How is that pro-woman?

Abortion advocates, who supposedly care about women, fight regulations requiring abortion facilities to meet the most basic health and safety standards of medical clinics–hallways wide enough to get a gurney through, in case an ambulance has to be called; fire extinguishers, and oxygen tanks. Opposing basic medical standards is not pro-woman.

I know you are all familiar with abortionist Kermit Gosnell. He was convicted of killing babies born alive by severing their spinal cords with scissors. He was also found guilty of involuntary manslaughter for the death of a woman who died from a drug overdose while undergoing an abortion at his clinic.

The conditions at his Philadelphia office were filthy and unsafe. The grand jury report went into detail about cat feces on the stairs, patients being given blankets with blood on them, instruments being used on multiple patients without being cleaned between abortions and many other deplorable conditions. This is a great example of abortion advocates being more concerned with keeping abortion available than its safety.

The National Abortion Federation is a “professional association of abortion practitioners.” NAF and Planned Parenthood Southeastern Pennsylvania knew about the deplorable, filthy conditions but didn’t report Gosnell to anybody– the AMA, the Pennsylvania Medical Board, the Pennsylvania Health Dept. They did nothing to stop him.

They didn’t care about cleanliness, or safety for the women there. They wanted to make sure that the sacred cow of abortion wasn’t hindered in any way. And yet, we are the ones that are supposedly waging the war on women?

In 2012, the United States House of Representatives voted on a bill to ban sex-selection abortions. President Obama and his pro-abortion allies opposed the bill. A disproportionate number of babies killed because they are “the wrong sex” are girls. If you do not think unborn baby girls should be killed merely because they are girls, you are waging a war on women.

Abortion advocates aren’t content to push abortion in this country.

They support it overseas as well. China has a population-control program, financially supported by the United Nations Population Fund, which relies heavily on forced abortion. Stories abound of pregnant women in China who are dragged out of their homes, taken to “family-planning” centers against their wishes, to have an abortion forced on them.

Forced abortions among women who violate the one-child policy in China are commonplace and sometimes carried out up to ninth month of pregnancy. They can be so violent that the women die along with their full term babies.

A couple of years ago, (2011) Vice President Joe Biden went to China and gave a speech in which he stated that he wouldn’t “second-guess” their population control program, that he “fully” understands it [http://nrlc.cc/1o3VieF].

When I heard this, I thought, “We need to introduce this man to the Wizard of Oz, because he needs a brain, a heart, and a backbone.”

You would think that abortion advocates who claim to support women would be screaming at the top of their lungs that the Chinese program is a war on women. But the Obama administration, with the support of pro-abortion groups like NARAL and Planned Parenthood, encourages this program by financially supporting the UN Population Fund with our tax dollars. THAT is the war on women.

This war on women farce would be funny if it wasn’t so serious. Because we want the country to remember that there is a small, innocent, helpless baby whose very life is in danger does not make us anti-woman.

The bottom line for abortion advocates is making sure that abortion remains legal, for any reason, with no limits whatsoever. Somehow, the unborn child became the enemy that must be sacrificed at all cost.

If abortion advocates really cared about women, they wouldn’t be trying to shut down pregnancy resource centers; they would be willing to tell these mothers that there can be serious, lifelong, consequences to abortion.

There is a war on women, but we are not the ones waging it. Those working against women are the abortion advocates who think the only way a woman can succeed is by killing her own child.

The women of this country deserve better, and certainly the unborn children of this country deserve better. So when you hear candidates in this silly season trying to use the “war on women” against pro-life candidates; don’t let them get away with it.

As the late Governor Bob Casey said, “America has a birth certificate– the Declaration of Independence.” Let’s do everything we can to elect pro-life candidates so our unborn children can get their birth certificates.
