WASHINGTON – Today, National Right to Life and Kentucky Right to Life reaffirmed their endorsement of Sen. Mitch McConnell in his bid for re-election to the United States Senate.
“No U.S. senator has done more for unborn children than Sen. Mitch McConnell,” said Carol Tobias, president of National Right to Life.
“Mitch McConnell is a stalwart defender of innocent human life and a tireless advocate for pro-life principles,” said Margie Montgomery, executive director of Kentucky Right to Life. “Pro-life voters need to come together to re-elect pro-life Sen. Mitch McConnell and defeat pro-abortion Alison Lundergan Grimes.”
National Right to Life Legislative Director Douglas Johnson said, “Mitch McConnell is the single greatest obstacle in the U.S. Senate to the relentless efforts of an avidly pro-abortion President, backed by powerful liberal elites from Hollywood to New York City, to radically expand the power of federal bureaucrats, pack the U.S. Supreme Court with robed social engineers, and strip away protections from unborn children and from the medically vulnerable.”
McConnell has been a key supporter of every major pro-life initiative to come before the U.S. Senate during his tenure, including current legislation to protect unborn children at 20 weeks, a point by which the unborn child is capable of experiencing great pain when being killed by dismemberment or other late abortion techniques. Just last week, he called on his Senate colleagues to pass the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, saying in a statement:
“It is time for America to join the ranks of most other developed nations around the world and restrict abortion at least at the point at which science tells us that unborn babies are capable of feeling pain. On this anniversary of the Gosnell trial, let’s show the world that we remember those who have been victimized by people like Kermit Gosnell and unite in this positive and life-affirming effort to safeguard the most vulnerable among us. Let’s take up this important pro-life legislation and send it to the President.”
In addition, McConnell has been the Senate’s chief defender of the First Amendment right of citizen groups to communicate with the public about the positions and voting records of those who hold or seek public office, and a courageous foe of attempts to curb that right under the guise of “campaign finance reform.” Tobias commented, “Our right to speak directly to the public, explaining the actions of elected officials, is critical to the survival and success of the pro-life movement.”
Both Tobias and Montgomery noted that endorsements made by the organization Northern Kentucky Right to Life do not represent National Right to Life or Kentucky Right to Life. Northern Kentucky Right to Life is not affiliated with either National Right to Life, the oldest and largest national pro-life organization in the country, or Kentucky Right to Life, the state affiliate of National Right to Life and the oldest and largest statewide pro-life organization in the Bluegrass State.
