Editor’s note. The following was sent out today by Rhode Island State Right to Life
On July 2, the R.I. General Assembly passed legislation authorizing the DMV to make Choose Life license plates available in Rhode Island. The bill now sits with Governor Chafee awaiting his signature. Planned Parenthood and their allies are asking Chafee to veto the legislation. Please take a moment to click on the following link and send an email to the Governor, asking him to sign the bill into law.
The Choose Life plate was one of 4 significant legislative victories since January. We also extended our state ban on human cloning, made some very important protective amendments to a palliative care bill, and defeated a concerted effort by Planned Parenthood to gain greater access to our state Medicaid program.
In addition, the state Senate passed legislation to address the mandatory abortion fee in the R.I. health benefits exchange, but the bill was never voted on in the House. We will be initiating another effort to correct this most serious matter over the next few weeks.
On another note, this is a last reminder that our fifth annual Summer Academy for high school students begins this Wednesday afternoon (July 10) from 3:00 p.m. to 5:15 pm at our 266 Smith Street headquarters. The Academy will run for 7 consecutive Wednesday afternoons. There is no charge to participate and pizza and snack are served. If you know any high school students who are interested, please have them contact Alison at 521-1860 or email@example.com.
