RENO, NV, May 4, 2013 – The baby at the centre of the Reno, Nevada, abortion court case that made national headlines last year has been born.

Cierra Marie was born on 2 May, weighing 5 pounds, 7 ounces and measuring 17 inches long. She is the child of Elisa Bauer, a mentally disabled Catholic woman whose parents fought to prevent a court-ordered abortion and sterilisation last year. LifeSiteNews readers from around the world flooded the court and the governor’s office with phone calls and e-mails begging them not to force Elisa to abort her baby.

After initially appearing to favour the forced abortion, the judge later ruled against the abortion after the case received widespread attention and provoked a fierce backlash from pro-life activists across the country.

Cierra “has lots of dark hair and a beautiful pink skin tone,” Bauer family attorney Jason Guinasso wrote in an email to LifeSiteNews announcing the birth. “She is sweet and docile. By all measures, she is perfectly healthy and sublimely beautiful.”

Guinasso said both mother and baby are doing well, and a loving adoptive family has been found for baby Cierra.

Guinasso wrote: “You and your readers were a big part of God’s plan to save this baby. She is a beautiful little girl. I can’t adequately express how full my heart is when I see her face.
