Reason #37 to Defeat Barack Obama: The Debates, Part II

Reason #37 to Defeat Barack Obama: The Debates, Part II

Barack Obama and Joe Biden continue their post-debate slide in the polls:  On Thursday, a poll came out that shows Mitt Romney a full seven points ahead of Obama in Florida, a state that Obama led narrowly for most of the summer.

There’s still a lot of work to do, of course, and I’ll mention in a moment what you can do to help the pro-life Romney/Ryan team win on November 6th.

But back to the debates.

After Barack Obama’s historic flop in the first debate, Joe Biden came out aggressive (some say obnoxious) in his.  Pundits say that was to make up for Obama’s meekness in debate #1 – that a combative approach was necessary to reverse the Obama/Biden ticket’s freefall.

It didn’t work.

One reason it didn’t work is that Biden managed to offend pro-life Americans, Catholics and others, instead of showing respect for their deeply held beliefs.

First, Biden falsely claimed that a Romney appointment to the Supreme Court might “outlaw abortion.”  This long-standing scare tactic might charge up his pro-abortion base, but it’s a misrepresentation of what the Supreme Court might actually do.

While pro-lifers want protection for the lives of all unborn babies, not a single Supreme Court justice has indicated the Court might ban abortions.  Rather, the Court might one day allow our elected officials to decide the issue, as they could before Roe v. Wade took that right away.

Biden also offended many with the way he described the Health and Human Services Department’s mandate under Obamacare.  The mandate is opposed by Catholic institutions and others, who have been told by Obama’s HHS Department that the insurance plans they offer their employees must provide drugs and procedures that violate their religious convictions.

Biden made the astounding claim that this wasn’t happening, that none of these religious organizations would have to be a “vehicle” for something they don’t believe in.  He even tried to emphasize by repeating: “That is a fact.  That is a fact.”

But according to the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, it is not a fact.  The Bishops took the unusual step Friday of releasing a statement correcting Biden’s claim and explaining how, in their words, there are “various infringements on religious freedom imposed by the mandate.”

From their statement:

“This is not a fact.  The HHS mandate contains a narrow, four-part exemption for certain ‘religious employers.’  That exemption was made final in February and does not extend to ‘Catholic social services, ’Georgetown hospital,’ ‘Mercy hospital,’ ‘any hospital,’ or any other religious charity that offers its services to all, regardless of the faith of those served.”

In other words, all those Catholic institutions (which Biden had referenced in his debate comments) and thousands of others, Catholic and otherwise, are now mandated to provide insurance that covers services that violate their conscience.

Obama and Biden’s contempt for the unborn, for the facts, and for their audiences who they apparently believe are completely ignorant are just several of the reasons Obama/Biden must be defeated this November.

As we head into the last weeks of the race, the need for additional funds to buy more radio ads, literature and get-out-the-vote phone calls grows even greater.  You can help us win November 6th by a) donating generously to the National Right to Life Victory Fund; and b) sharing this important message with all of your pro-life friends.

The more Americans who know Obama and Biden’s real position and actions on abortion, the more will see through the misleading rhetoric.  And an election decided on the basis of facts is one that Obama/Biden don’t want to run.

Please help us win a huge victory for the unborn next month with your generous contribution today.  Thank you!
