Recently NRL News Today wrote about the resignation of two members of the board of Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, its President, and what appeared to be, on second thought, something of a lateral move by its CEO, Nancy Brinker. In the brief span since, two fascinating developments for the organization that Planned Parenthood brought to its knees earlier this year.

First, news that Karen Handel,  the Komen vice president of public policy at the time of the controversy who quickly resigned, has a new book coming out in September: “Planned Bullyhood: The Truth Behind the Headlines about the Planned Parenthood Funding Battle with Susan G. Komen for the Cure.”  The title alone suggests it’s going to be quite a read.

Second, in what looks like a preemptive strike against Handel’s book and a revisionist history of Brinker’s move to a new position, New York magazine  ran a long essay excoriating Brinker in withering language. (Brinker is accused of many crimes, but worst of all was bringing Handel on board.)

In “Brinker’s Way: Behind the Pseudo-Exit of the Komen Foundation’s Founder,” Lea Goldman just rips Brinker (using anonymous sources) as a increasingly partisan right-winger who sold Komen’s non-partisan birthright for a bowl of “perks like private planes and access to Washington’s top power players.” (Of course, for Goldman, it goes without saying that PPFA is beyond politics.)

Who knows the players? I sure don’t. But the knives have been out for Brinker since January and it isn’t hard to guess which $1 billion corporation is behind the campaign to drive Brinker out of any position of influence at Komen.
