What’s Airing on Pro-Life Perspective Today? “Questions About Stem Cells”

By Dave Andrusko

NRLC President Carol Tobias

National Right to Life President and Pro-Life Perspective Host Carol Tobias ends the week with a reminder that “we’re never done educating on pro-life topics.” NRLC has written literally a hundred plus articles on “stem cell research,” but an honest inquiry on NRLC’s Facebook page reminded Mrs. Tobias that the subject area is so misrepresented in the popular media that a fair-minded person might wonder what NRLC’s position is.

The inquiry to our Facebook page was sparked by a story that appeared on CNN.com which carried the headline, “Stem cells reverse heart damage.”  Said Mrs. Tobias, “The Facebook user asked if we were opposed to this kind of research.” The long answer and the short answer is no! The source of those stem cells was not human embryos but “adult stem cells,” which can refer to stem cells from umbilical cord blood, bone marrow, and a host of other sources that are morally and ethically unobjectionable.

“National Right to Life welcomes, as I’m sure you do, any and all advancements that do not require the destruction of human life,” Mrs. Tobias says. “Thankfully, the greatest achievements that the medical community has seen with the use of stem cells have all been through ethically derived sources.”

You will want to go to www.prolifeperspective.com and listen to today’s five-minute broadcast where Mrs. Tobias outlines some of the details in the CNN report about how the patient’s own stem cells were used to reverse heart damage. “Far exceeding expectations, the stem cells actually grew living heart muscle that had been lost in a heart attack.”

(If you go to www.nationalrighttolife.org and type in “stem cells” in the search box in the upper right hand corner, you have access to dozens of stories about stem cells.)

Have a great weekend.
