In Wednesday’s edition of Pro-Life Perspective, National Right to Life President and PLP Host Carol Tobias discusses one of the least understood but most important components of the fight for life: the local NRLC chapter. She begins with a quote from the 30th president of the United States Calvin Coolidge which could be a slogan for grassroots pro-life America:
“Nothing in the world can take the place of Persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan ‘Press On’ has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race.”
Much of today’s five minute broadcast, available at www.prolifeperspective.com, is devoted to contrasting what might seem at first glance to be the modest contributions we make in our chapters with the reality of all that YOU have accomplished. “Are we making a difference?” you might ask yourself. Mrs. Tobias’ responds, “The unequivocal answer is YES!”
She asks us to think about everything a right-to-life chapter does.
“Chapters educate people in their communities; chapters lobby members of the state legislature and Congress to pass pro-life legislation or defeat anti-life legislation; chapters reach out to schools, churches, and civic organizations with information that will persuade minds and hearts; chapters educate their communities about where candidates stand on pro-life issues; chapters encourage citizens to vote; chapters help to collect names of new (or previously unknown) pro-lifers; chapters raise funds for necessary pro-life activities.”
And to what end? What are your accomplishments? First and foremost, thanks to your persistence the annual number of abortions has dropped by almost one quarter since 1990, a staggering number of saved babies. Then there is the undeniable existence of more pro-life sentiment among young people, and awakening to the menace of assisted suicide and the failure to treat the medically dependent with justice.
There is much more to Mrs. Tobias’s broadcast today, celebrating the backbone of the Pro-Life Movement: the local NRLC chapter. Listen to today’s program or any you may have missed this week at www.prolifeperspective.com.
