This past Spring, the United States House of Representatives passed, for the first time ever, a bill that would cut off federal funds for the Planned Parenthood Federation of America. While the bill would never pass the pro-abortion veto pen sitting on the President’s desk, the measure was at least sent to the Senate for an up or down vote, the first ever allowed in that chamber. While not a complete victory for pro-life forces, it marked a significant step forward in the attempt to pull the nation’s largest abortion provider out of the pockets of taxpayers.
Of course, that project will get easier as more Americans learn the truth about abortion, and Planned Parenthood’s role in and promotion of the killing of unborn children. Readers may remember the PR spin campaign Planned Parenthood launched during the Spring in attempt to get “their side of the story” out. You probably recall Planned Parenthood’s hand-wringing attempt to make themselves out as a harmless charity under assault by women-hating politicians, neatly avoiding the point that Planned Parenthood clinics perform over 332,000 abortions annually. The sad truth of the matter is that Planned Parenthood’s propaganda is successful on far too many Americans, many of whom are simply ignorant to the Truth.
That’s where you come in.
What does it say that Planned Parenthood carefully avoids the “A” word whenever possible and, when not possible, pretend abortion is just another “service”? Where else does an industry studiously avoid publicly talking about its biggest single revenue making product? What the pro-life movement needs to do is win the educational battle and let people know what Planned Parenthood does.

In addition there is an existing line of fact sheets (http://www.nrlc.org/factsheets/index.html) and literature from our education department on Planned Parenthood that documents PPFA’s activities, sources of income, and political connections. Please take a look at these resources and think about how you can incorporate them into your own pro-life outreach.
Planned Parenthood may operate through high profile expensive media campaigns that seek to inoculate the public to the Truth. But face-to-face personal interactions trump impersonal media campaigns. The coworkers, churchgoers, and friends who know and trust you will listen. Dropping a casual word or sharing information will expose people to the Truth that Planned Parenthood is the largest provider of abortions in the United States and that one in every eight clinics who come into a PPFA clinic has an abortion.
If we all make an effort and reach out to just a few people every week, one day that vote to defund abortion providers will not be in doubt.
