Obama’s Slumping Numbers Hit New Low

Pro-Abortion President Barack Obama

In Part One of National Right to Life News Today for Tuesday, I write about NRLC’s new comparison piece. It’s very much worth your time to see the positions of the eight declared Republican candidates for President, as contrasted with pro-abortion Barack Obama.

Let me offer a few salient numbers of President Obama. They should not be brushed aside or exaggerated–we are still over 15 months away from the next election—but they do provide a framework.

·         From Gallup headline (yesterday), “Obama’s Weekly Job Approval Ties Term Low of 43%” His rating is lower than Clinton’s during budget crisis of 1995.” First paragraph, “President Barack Obama averaged a 43% job approval rating for the week of July 18-24, tied for the lowest weekly average of his administration. Obama’s rating at this point is lower than President Bill Clinton’s ratings were in the fall of 1995 when he was embroiled in a budget dispute similar to the one Obama faces now.” His approval ratings have dropped three points in three weeks.

·         From Rasmussen Reports [today] “The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Tuesday shows that 24% of the nation’s voters Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as president. Forty-three percent (43%) Strongly Disapprove, giving Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of -19. [As you can see, the Index is calculated by subtracting the number who Strongly Disapprove from the number who Strongly Approve. It is a very, very good index of how intensely likely voters—the people Rasmussen polls—feel.]

·         From the Los Angeles Times’ Andrew Malcolm [today], “New polls confirm Obama’s Democratic base crumbles.” Among his observations, “Now, comes a new ABC News/Washington Post poll with a whole harvest of revelations, among them, strong indications that Obama’s liberal base is starting to crumble.” Specifically, “Strong support among liberal Democrats for Obama’s jobs record has plummeted 22 points from 53% down below a third. African Americans who believe the president’s measures helped the economy have plunged from 77% to barely half.” Speaking of that poll….

·         “More Americans unhappy with Obama on economy, jobs,” by Ylan Q. Mui and Jon Cohen in today’s Washington Post. First paragraph, “More than a third of Americans now believe that President Obama’s policies are hurting the economy, and confidence in his ability to create jobs is sharply eroding among his base, according to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll.” Put another way, “Overall, though, Obama’s approval rating on handling the economy has slipped below 40 percent for the first time, to 39 percent,” according to ABC News’ Pollster Julie E. Phelan. “Fifty-seven percent disapprove, and strong disapprovers outnumber strong approvers by more than 2 to 1. Just 41 percent approve specifically of how he’s handling job creation.”
