Abortion in America: 2007-2010

Carol Tobias, National Right to Life President

Today marks the conclusion of National Right to Life’s ten part series “Abortion in America.” If you missed any episode—or wish to listen to an episode a second time—go to www.prolifeperspective.com. And it’s important to check to see if a local station is carrying NRLC’s daily five-minute program.

In today’s concluding broadcast, NRLC President Carol Tobias discusses “some of the more recent developments in our work to protect life.” She recalls the passing in late 2007 of Cong. Henry Hyde, “the father of the modern pro-life movement” who once described National Right to Life as the “flagship of the pro-life movement.” Although he had retired, Mr. Hyde’s death was a shock to pro-lifers everywhere who remembered his unfailing leadership and authorship of the famous “Hyde Amendment” which has conservatively saved the lives of a million people.

After noting that 2008 was the 35th anniversary of the infamous Roe v. Wade decision, Mrs. Tobias outlined “the growing trend” in state legislation” that “gave mothers the opportunity to view an ultrasound before undergoing an abortion. By providing a ‘window to the womb’ to see her child in real time, it is likely that more and more women would choose life.”

Much of the rest of today’s “Pro-Life Perspective” naturally centered around the contrast between the newly elected pro-abortion President Barack Obama and his predecessor pro-life President George W. Bush. The third day in office in 2009 Obama reversed the pro-life Mexico City policy and it’s been downhill ever since. The worst damage, of course, is ObamaCare, riddled with provisions that fund abortion and make rationing a certainty. From Day One, NRLC was the “go-to” organization for reporters trying to understand the truth lurking underneath reassuring veneer.

However, as Mrs. Tobias reminds us, the Movement came storming back in the November 2010 elections, in no small part because of deep voter opposition to ObamaCare and because “pro-life voters turned out in droves.”

She concludes this ten part series on “Abortion in America” with this encouraging conclusion: “As the pro-life movement entered 2011 we were poised for tremendous gains at all levels of government.”

Be sure to pass this information along to your pro-life family, friends, and colleagues and make it a habit to listen to Pro-Life Perspective either on your local station or at http://www.prolifeperspective.com/.
