This is Part Two in what I hope will be a long, long series of helpful educational resources. I recently wrote that I had heard a lovely song on YouTube which seemingly for no particular reason was filed under fetal development.
I saw that there were 1,620 results– One thousand, six hundred and 20 videos/songs/animated graphics illustrated that most miraculous process: how you and I started out the same and ended up each unique. I asked readers to pass along clever, thought-provoking videos available online.
The first response was fabulous: “The Case Against Abortion: Fetal Development” at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x-6VLUVglG8.
Today I’m offering a second, found on the web page of the Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation under “When Does a Person’s Life Begin.” When you click on it, you are taken to “The Miracle of Life” found at http://www.realalternatives.org/Movie-2/
What I like about this one is, again, it’s not long—three minutes and 33 seconds—but it covers the major developmental milestones. And what do we need to teach people, fundamentally?
That we all started off at the same point; that our genetic inheritance was a package deal that we were bequeathed at conception; that the unborn is amazingly complicated very, very early in pregnancy (even before her mom knows she is pregnant); and that each of us is unique and irreplaceable. This “The Miracle of Life” does economically but softly and with tenderness.
It also reinforces a point made so deftly in “The Case Against Abortion: Fetal Development”—that “They may not look like a baby yet, but they look exactly as a human being should look, 21 days after conception.”
Got that? That’s how we all looked at a given stage of gestation and that’s how we are SUPPOSED to look.
Take 3:33 of your time and watch “The Miracle of Life” at ” http://www.realalternatives.org/Movie-2/. And then share it on your social networks, along with “The Case Against Abortion: Fetal Development” at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x-6VLUVglG8.
