If you are an Obama supporter you would have to look far, wide, and deep to find a shred of good news from the latest Associated Press-GfK poll on ObamaCare–the woefully mislabeled “Affordable Health Care Act.” The poll of 1,001 adults shows that “support for Obama’s expansion of health insurance coverage has slipped to 35 percent, while opposition stands at 45 percent and another 17 percent are neutral.”
And “Among seniors, whose views are critical in any debate over health care,” writes the AP’s Ricardo Alonso-Zaldivar, “support for the law dipped below 30 percent for the first time in AP-GfK polling.” In a poll conducted March 24-28, 59% disapproved of ObamaCare to only 29% who approved.
In addition, among seniors “Republicans are more trusted than Democrats to handle the issue, by a 51 percent to 36 percent margin,” Alonso-Zaldivar writes. This is grim news for the Obama administration as the campaign to repeal and replace ObamaCare continues to gear up.
But that steady decline in support should be no surprise. The public has never been on board, which is why negotiations were always conducted behind closed doors by pro-abortion Democrats and with pro-life Republicans excluded.
Nor is it unexpected that a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit filed by Judicial Watch revealed (according to Judicial Watch) a “massive taxpayer-funded multimedia campaign” by the Obama Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) “designed to promote the Affordable Health Care Act (also known as Obamacare) and other HHS policy initiatives.”
Judicial Watch says that documents from HHS reveal that “the total cost of the campaign, which targets Obama’s electoral coalition, could reach as much as $200 million.” (See www.judicialwatch.org/news/2011/apr/judicial-watch-obtains-hhs-records-detailing-taxpayer-funded-obamacare-propaganda-camp)
“There is nothing educational about this Obamacare propaganda campaign to force ‘behavioral changes’ on Americans,” said Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton. “These records prove the administration is using taxpayer dollars to manipulate public opinion. It also appears the Obama administration is trying to get a leg-up in the reelection campaign by targeting key Obama constituencies with positive and misleading messages about the president’s ‘signature’ policy initiative. This Big Brother campaign is most certainly underhanded, potentially unlawful, and it must be stopped.”
