The latest poll numbers for pro-abortion President Barack Obama from the respected Quinnipiac University poll clearly indicate the President’s post-election “bounce” is history.
“American voters disapprove 48 – 42 percent of the job President Barack Obama is doing and say 50 – 41 percent he does not deserve to be re-elected in 2012, both all-time lows,” Quinnipiac said in a release this morning. “This compares to a 46 – 46 percent job approval rating and a 45 – 47 percent split on the President’s re-election in a March 3 survey by the independent Quinnipiac University. In a hypothetical 2012 matchup, President Obama gets 36 percent of the vote to 37 percent for an unnamed Republican challenger.”
Peter A. Brown, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute, chimed in, “President Barack Obama’s approval numbers are at their lowest level ever, slightly below where they were for most of 2010 before he got a bump up in surveys after the November election and into the early part of this year.”
Polls conducted 19 months out from the next election must be taken with several grains of salt. But why is the President’s support tumbling, including among Independents (he’s down 50%-39%), men (Obama is down 52%-41%), and only breaking even among women (44% to 44%)?
Brown says, “Some reasons for his overall numbers might be that Obama receives negative ratings on his handling of the budget deficit, the economy, foreign policy, health care and energy policy.” Since that about covers the electoral waterfront, needless to say the temptation for pundits to poke fun has proven irresistible.
All we will say is that the poll surveyed 2,069 registered voters. The error margin is plus or minus 2.2 percentage points.
