I hope—really hope—that you are taking five to eight minutes each day to read the excerpts we are reprinting from the Philadelphia Grand Jury’s scathing report about what the Delaware County Daily Times aptly describes as “the utter depravity discovered inside a West Philadelphia abortion clinic.” The 261-page report denounced abortionist Kermit Gosnell in scathing language and is, if possible, even more harshly critical of the state regulatory agencies that actively chose not to monitor, let alone investigate, his Women’s Medical Society.
For the Abortion Industry, reports of two dead women, hundreds of babies aborted late in pregnancy and then murdered, and a level of sanitary conditions (a “filthy fraud”) no self-respecting slaughterhouse would tolerate could not have come at a worse time. The fallout from Gosnell is helping to weaken the aura of invincibility that has long surrounded the Citadel of the Abortion Establishment—Planned Parenthood.
PPFA is quick to distinguish itself from Gosnell’s West Philadelphia “House of Horrors.” You won’t find fetal remains “scattered throughout, in cabinets, in the basement, in a freezer, in jars and bags and plastic jugs ” at your downtown PPFA. We’re told that if you cut the umpteen millions of dollars that flow each year into PPFA’s coffers, it’s as if you prefer Gosnell to PPFA, the respectable face of the Abortion Industry. (Talk about the fallacy of false alternatives!)
But is PPFA that saintly? No blemishes at all? We’ve run a number of stories about the undercover investigation launched by the pro-life organization Live Action. In writing a short response for POLITICO, founder Lila Rose described why “It is time once and for all to end taxpayer subsidies of Planned Parenthood.” Rose writes,
“As our ongoing, three-year investigation has revealed, Planned Parenthood is not safe for underage girls and young women. Our most recent investigation uncovered a willingness on the part of Planned Parenthood staff and supervisors to aid and abet sex trafficking and exploitation of minors as young as 14 and 15. It further revealed Planned Parenthood skirting parental consent laws to perform secret abortions on underage girls. Past investigations have shown Planned Parenthood failing to report obvious incidents of statutory rape, performing abortions on underage girls, and targeting donations for abortions of African American babies.”
She concludes by asking, “Ideology and politics aside, what member of Congress would want to vote for taxpayer funding of an organization willing to engage in this type of activity? For those who do, it will be telling to see how they explain their vote to constituents back home.”
Indeed, a House vote to deny all federal funds, through September 30, for the Planned Parenthood Federation of America, Inc., and 102 PPFA affiliates would be an important first step in severing a relationship that should never have been begun in the first place and whose expiration date has long since come and gone.
