Political leaders without a conscience want to take away your conscience rights

Oh, how far the Democratic party leadership has moved on certain social issues.

And how fast.

Just 50 years ago, the laws of all 50 states protected virtually every unborn child from the violence of abortion. Both political parties and society in general shared a consensus that aborting a child was an unconscionable act and that laws should protect the unborn.

Even after a handful of states legalized abortion and then Roe v. Wade foisted legalization on all 50 states, Democratic candidates still often talked about wanting abortion to be “rare,” even if they would keep it legal.

But as Democrat Kirsten Powers explained on Fox News Channel last week, few Democratic candidates even give lip service to wanting abortion to be “rare” any more. On the contrary, Democratic senators trotted out a bill last week, the so-called “Women’s Health Protection Act,” that would make the number of abortions skyrocket because it would nullify virtually every state and federal law that currently limits abortion.

On another issue, as recently as the 1990s strong bipartisan majorities supported laws to protect citizens from having to participate in abortion. But today many Democratic leaders want to severely narrow conscience rights. The new Senate bill would actually eliminate conscience laws on abortion, forcing medical personnel who object to abortion because of religious or moral beliefs to either participate in performing abortions or lose their jobs.

At the same time, Senate Democrats are pressing another bill that directly attacks conscience rights, such as the right of business owners or charities to not include drugs or procedures they find morally objectionable in their insurance plans for employees.

Just one day after holding a hearing on their sweeping pro-abortion bill, virtually every Democratic senator voted for a bill designed to get around the Supreme Court decision in Hobby Lobby v. Burwell. This bill would enhance the power of the federal government to mandate coverage of abortion pills such as RU-486, surgical abortion (including late abortions), or anything else it chooses to classify as “preventive services,” overriding all existing federal laws that protect religious freedom and conscience rights.

These fundamental rights teeter on the brink, to be decided by Congress, the White House, and the Supreme Court. It is absolutely essential to the future rights of millions of Americans that we elect as our leaders those who will defend the rights of the unborn and citizens’ rights to not have to participate in abortion.

The National Right to Life Victory Fund is fighting for those rights. We live in a nation closely divided between those who support life and those who oppose it. That means any given election can go our way . . . or be won by those who favor death. The choice is entirely ours.

This is a fight every American has to be involved in – to take sides in. Please help us win these vital battles with a donation to the NRL Victory Fund of $1,000, $500, $100, or $50. Your gift of any amount will help us identify and inform voters, persuade them that the protection of human life is an essential voting issue, and get them to the polls.

With your help we can win – and so much is at stake that requires us to win! Please share your generous donation today so that future generations can share in our birthright as Americans – the right to life, and the right to live as our conscience dictates.
