The President’s bizarre obsession with Planned Parenthood
By Carol Tobias, National Right to Life President
If anyone questions whether or not President Obama has an obsession with Planned Parenthood, last night’s second presidential debate provided the definitive answer. Yes!
The best word I can think of to describe his determination to bring Planned Parenthood into the debate—early and often- is “bizarre.”
The President mentioned Planned Parenthood no less than five times—including when talking about Mitt Romney’s plan for tax cuts, the state of the economy when he took office, and in answering a question from a 2008 supporter why he should vote for Obama again.
He also brought the nation’s largest abortion provider into the debate when one questioner asked about pay equity for women in the workplace on the premise that women earn less than their male counterparts.
In a lengthy, rambling response, Obama used the question as a springboard to talk about forcing employers, including religious institutions, to provide contraceptive services to their employees. He segued into Mitt Romney wanting to eliminate federal funding for Planned Parenthood and then added for good measure the patently false assertion that Planned Parenthood provides mammograms.
Obama followed those comments by saying he wants to make sure his two daughters have the same opportunities that anybody’s sons have.
Trying to follow his rambling logic, he seemed to be saying, “We have to give tax dollars to Planned Parenthood so my daughters can get mammograms so they can earn the same money as men.” Huh?
President Obama tried to demonize Mitt Romney by saying that Governor Romney will defund Planned Parenthood. What he succeeded in doing is reinforcing the resolve of every pro-lifer to elect Mitt Romney.
