What’s airing on Pro-Life Perspective Today? “Abortion is Not Safe,” Part 2
By Dave Andrusko
National Right to Life President and Pro-Life Perspective Host Carol Tobias picks up today with the discussion she began Tuesday demonstrating that abortion is not safe. Mrs. Tobias begins by observing
“During his presidency Bill Clinton liked to invoke his favorite phrase that abortion is and should be ‘safe, legal, and rare.’ Hardly a month passed during his 8 years in office that we didn’t hear that phrase. Even Hillary Clinton adopted it in her campaigns for Senate and the presidency. And, sadly, it still persists today. But it’s classic smoke and mirrors rhetoric for pro-abortion activists.”
Legal, yes, but anything but safe. Today Mrs. Tobias reminds her listeners that despite the use of local anesthesia, a full 97% of women having abortions reported experiencing pain, which more than a third described as “intense,” “severe” or “very severe.” Compared to other pains, researchers have rated the pain from abortion as more painful than a bone fracture, about the same as cancer pain, though not as painful as an amputation.
Contrary to pro-abortion mythology complications are common–bleeding, hemorrhage, laceration of the cervix, menstrual disturbance, inflammation of the reproductive organs, bladder or bowel perforation, and serious infection. And that doesn’t even include long-term physical complications from abortion that may surface later.
Mrs. Tobias also addresses what the abortion industry likes to keep hidden: that “the particular type and severity of complications depend a great deal on the experience of the abortionist and the particular abortion method used. Given that most abortions are performed at abortion clinics rather than by a woman’s regular ob-gyn, the doctor performing the abortion is likely to be a stranger of whose skill and experience a woman knows very little.”
She concludes Part Two by reminding us that there is strong evidence that abortion increases the risk of breast cancer and that, “of course, death of the mother is the most serious of all complications. The risk of death increases according to the duration of pregnancy and the complexity of the abortion technique employed.”
