A Wonderful Story about the baby who beat the odds
By Dave Andrusko
I imagine it’s probably because our extended family has experienced the loss of babies who died in utero that I so enjoy reading blogs written by parents whose babies beat the odds.
A tip of the hat to Kristi Burton Brown for a wonderful piece that appeared at Live Action in which she wrote about the Aguiar family, specifically Noelle Christine Aguiar who was born at 27 weeks gestation but weighing only 12 ounces. Her mother Jill’s blog, http://graceoutpoured.blogspot.com, is an absolute delight to read.
I won’t spoil her story—if you can, you really should read her frequent posts—by providing too many details. Suffice it to say there have been numerous occasions in the seven months since Noelle was born when the baby was not expected to survive.
However Mrs. Aguiar’s latest post (July 31) is a bundle of encouragement. She writes, “Yesterday at one of her appointments, she weighed 7lbs. 7 oz., and the newborn clothes are finally fitting well as she fills out. Her developmental skill s also seem to be increasing and changing daily, and the sweet smiles and little ‘words’ are beginning to create a sense of true normalcy as we still navigate the multiple ramifications of her micro-preemie birth.”
However, what particularly struck me was how all of these difficulties have brought out the best in both her and her husband. (They have been married just two years.) Under a post titled, “Cruising Speed,” Mrs. Aguiar concludes
“Noelle has added a completely new dimension to this life journey, making the past year feel as long as ten years at some points; but God has been faithful, and we are ever grateful for the manner in which He has chosen to glorify Himself through her tiny life. We enjoyed some sweet reminiscing as we celebrated today; and as we treasure our many memories together, we look forward to how God will continue to work in and through our lives to make Himself known and glorified to this world. Thank you for your continued prayers for our family as we seek to live out the covenant which we signed on that precious day, only two years ago.”
