Reason #10 to Defeat Barack Obama: Freedom
On a July 4th two hundred and thirty-six years ago, America’s Founding Fathers announced to the world that a new nation of free men would be dedicated to “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.”
It would not have occurred to them to accept living with just one or two of these rights. But that’s exactly what we are being told to do today.
In 1973, the right to life was taken away from the unborn. Soon followed a drumbeat for euthanasia. Today, a massive “health care” law, called Obamacare, contains poison pill clauses that would ration health care and deny life-saving treatment to untold numbers of sick, elderly and disabled persons.
One down of the three pillars of “unalienable” rights that hold up this great country of ours.
Liberty is the second treasured inheritance from our forefathers that is slipping from our grasp. One indicator of a society’s freedom is whether it respects the right of those with deeply held conscience concerns to not participate in what they find morally repugnant. Today that right is disappearing right before our very eyes.
Under Obamacare, even those with conscience objections will be forced to help subsidize abortion coverage with their tax dollars; others are being told to pay for what is offensive to their faith.
Obama has shown his contempt for conscience rights in several other ways. He gutted the Bush Administration’s conscience protections for medical personnel. He gave millions of pro-lifers’ tax dollars to groups that advocate and perform abortions in the U.S. and abroad. He even gave your tax money to an organization (UNFPA) that actively works with the Chinese Communist government’s family planning program, infamous for its one-child program of forced abortions and sterilizations.
That means the second pillar of this great edifice that is America is also getting shaky.
Some people want to think America can survive as a place where the pursuit of happiness alone is savored, in isolation from other values.
It can’t.
It can’t because that formula has been tried and has never worked in all of the history of the world.
No society has ever, or can ever, stand on that leg alone.
Whether they know it or not, Americans will soon make a fateful choice. They will either choose leaders who will work to restore the foundations of life and liberty or leaders who value only the pursuit of happiness, which history shows will inevitably bring the whole thing collapsing to the ground.
They will choose Mitt Romney or Barack Obama. Three unalienable rights or one. A birthright of life and freedom or a fleeting promise of “Hope” or “Change.”
